October 20, 2022. Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa and Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa are delighted to announce that they have received the prestigious and significant Green Globe re-certification for outstanding sustainability practices. The Green Globe certification is a structured assessment of the sustainability performance of travel and tourism businesses, and their supply chain partners. The Green Globe Standard includes 44 core criteria supported by over 380 compliance indicators including impactful eco-friendly projects and local community support.

In 2020, Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa and Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa became the first Hilton hotels to be certified by Green Globe in the Africa and Indian Ocean region. With a continued effort towards building on these sustainable practices and implementing new initiatives, the two resorts are honored to receive the re-certification for 2022.

Located on Silhouette Island, Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa is situated in the heart of Seychelle’s largest National Marine Park – Silhouette National Marine Park. The park is home to a dazzling array of fish, hard and soft corals, and other marine animals. The resort’s team is passionate about protecting this unique environment as well as educating and involving guests on how they can help with the preservation of the protected marine ecosystem.

With assistance from the Island Conservation Society (ICS), reef and sea clean-ups allow guests to explore the wonders of the undersea world at Silhouette while helping to keep the waters clear of debris. Additionally, the ICS collaboration includes a variety of sustainable projects that drive forestry care and protect the endangered Seychelles Sheath-Tailed Bat. The resort has supported this cause by opening a new sanctuary for the island’s population of Aldabra Giant Tortoises.

Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa is surrounded by white sands and tropical gardens just seven kilometers from the capital Victoria. Similar to the ICS partnership, the resort has collaborated with the Marine Conservation Seychelles Society to develop a Coral Reef Restoration programme aimed at protecting and restoring the remaining reef. Guests are invited on snorkeling tours to learn about the restoration process and adopt a piece of coral, which can include Acropora and Pocillopora – both of which have been negatively affected by the rising sea temperatures caused by global warming.

Andre Borg, Area General Manager for Hilton Seychelles says; “We are proud of both our Seychelles resorts and the world-class sustainability initiatives that they have put in place – true examples of Hilton’s Travel with Purpose in action. We are delighted to receive this hugely important accolade and re-certification from Green Globe in recognition of our Team’s passion and accomplishments to put sustainability and conservation at the heart of everything we do.  Guests can be assured that when they stay at our resorts, they are actively helping to maintain and improve this amazing natural environment.”

Resort restaurants place sustainability at the heart of their menus. At Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa, MAHE – the signature restaurant offers contemporary Creole cuisine along with an environmentally conscious menu made using locally sourced ingredients in partnership with the island’s farmers.

Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa and Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa have adopted a no plastic bottle or straw policy, and host regular sustainability days which include beach and lagoon clean-ups, as well as meat-free menus. Guests at Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa are invited to swap the indoor gym for Creole Sega dance classes and use sand timers to reduce water usage and save on energy. Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa recently installed a state-of-the-art water filtration system that harvests water from the Mount Dauban Waterfall and fills reusable stainless steel bottles gifted to guests on arrival. To date, this scheme has saved over 292,000 plastic bottles.

Both Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa and Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa aim to power the properties with renewable solar energy with panels fitted on buggies, villas and water heaters, hydropower and occupancy sensors for lighting and air conditioning, LED lights, and reduced water flow rates in shower heads and basins.
