Motel One Manchester-Royal Exchange Motel One Manchester-Royal Exchange is nestled in the heart of Manchester and reflects the history of The Royal Exchange, capturing the essence of “Cottonopolis” where cotton products were made and sold in local markets, with a faux-industrial design throughout the hotel.
From the minute you walk through the door and are greeted with a printed linen wall, “Cottonopolis” is all around. The hotel entrance area is dominated by six-metre high round steel arches and a wall of printed cloth with a wall installation entitled “Cottonopolis” by British paper artist Andy Singleton, composed entirely of shapes cast by innumerable single thread as the main eye-catcher and foretaste of the theme. The furniture in the reception area, manufactured
by Baxter, were inspired by the gentle shape of cotton.
Other artworks by Singleton are visible throughout the hotel, including a 3D paper wall installation demonstrating the process of transforming cotton into finished yarn. Eye-catching
hanging lamps by Alturo Alvarez are found throughout the hotel, imitating tufts of cotton floating complemented by spools of thread and spinning machines – demonstrating Motel One’s
exquisitely subtle yet powerful attention to detail. In addition to the captivating décor of the hotel, Motel One Manchester-Royal Exchange is perfectly situated for theatre-goers, found directly opposite the Royal Exchange Theatre. The location is a delight for shoppers too, situated only a stone’s throw from the Manchester Arndale – one of Manchester’s biggest shopping centres.

For music-lovers, Motel One Manchester-Piccadilly commemorates Manchester as the birthplace of music, with interiors adorned with famous Manchester bands and artists including

Perfect for those exploring the city, the St. Peter’s Square tram stop makes sure the hotel has great transport connections. The design of the new 330-room Motel One Manchester-St. Peter’s Square is a nod to the
literary history of Manchester. With Manchester Central Library on the doorstep, visitors carry on the literary journey as they step into the hotel – with its portrait gallery of English authors,
antique books integrated into the surface of the wall, the theme is finished off with book-shaped inspired furnishings including lamps and wallpaper. The bar and lounge, with their large arches, abstract bookshelves, and room dividers with inset panes of stained glass, are inspired by the large windows of the Rylands Library. With muted colours and contrasting floral and leather elements, the design helps create both a relaxing and workable space for travellers. A focal point of the space is an In-es.artdesign lamp, which is lined with tea bags as a playful nod to the many cups of tea that will be enjoyed in the lounge.
